In this episode, after Charlie is killed in a subway accident in Paris, Alan faces the tough reality of moving out of the beach house, as well as losing his only brother. Although he did inherit the residence from him as he promised, he finds out that the house has multiple mortgages on it, and he is unable to pay it, so therefore he and Jake are forced to leave the house and move in with Evelyn. Soon after, however, a suicidal young man named Walden Schmidt played by the beloved Ashton Kutcher, who turns out to be an internet billionaire, shows up on the deck after a failed suicide attempt. The two broken-hearted men form a friendship, leading to Schmidt offering to buy the house. The tricky part id for the leech Alan to stay in the house.
